Rock Band 3

avid should be writing this post. I'll probably report everything wrong about our Rock Band 3 experience and he'll have to come behind me and re-write the post, but here we go.


Last night we had a big party and some of our friends went out and bought Rock Band 3. Woo! We were all very very excited. We have a lot of musicians in our group, so they were excited about the keyboard. it took some practice, but most everyone got the hang of the keyboard eventually. We started playing it on pro-mode, so the switch to keytar took some getting used to half way through the night, even though I'd say that's easier.


The highlights of the night were definitely Whip It by Devo and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. We failed Whip It about a million times but it was hysterical because we restarted the song over and over and over again. By the end, Jessica and I were pros at the harmony. We played Bohemian Rhapsody twice, once at the beginning of the night and once at the end. Both times there was a rule that everyone had to sing. It was glorious. 


The review of Rock Band 3 is as follows: It was a ton of fun to play, but we were fairly disappointed at the set list. There weren't a lot of songs we knew, so it wasn't as fun to play as it could have been. Also, to add your Rock Band 2 songs to Rock Band 3 you have to spend 800 gamer points. Even after you spend that money, your old songs don't have any harmony, keys, or pro-modes. Sad. There are Rock Band 3 versions of a very few of the Rock Band 2 songs, but you have to buy those as well. Hopefully enough people will be upset about this that by the time David and I buy/get Rock Band 3, we won't have to pay o wazoo ut the just to play the songs we already have...


All in all, we had a fun night, but we're planning to wait a while to get the game because we want more options and more song we know.

The Avett Brothers

riday night we went to see The Avett Brothers at the Time Warner Pavilion! We went with some really great friends, spent a lot of time people watching, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Avett Brothers surprised us by playing a lot of good songs from a lot of their old albums. Amazingly enough (I wasn't expecting this at all) January Wedding was the second song they played! Suffice it to say, that made me a very happy bride-to-be. They also played Kick Drum Heart later in the night, another one of my favorites. You could definitely tell The Avett Brothers were stoked to be in North Carolina. They told us multiple times how glad they were to be playing for us (the girls sitting behind us seemed to think they were saying this to them specifically, but I'm pretty sure they were talking to the crowd as a whole...). We also got two encoures out of them. Great concert, guys, great concert.


Post Script: David and I have decided to do our best to make it to Mae's final concert in Norfolk, VA on November 27. We would love for all of our Mae-loving friends to come with us. Think about it guys!

Concerts

efore David proposed, we had planned to go to three concerts this year. After he proposed, we decided we needed to start budgeting. Somehow (probably against better judgement), we're still going to the concerts.


Three weeks ago we went to see Kings of Leon and The Black Keys. The Black Keys put on a pretty great show. I only started listening to them when I heard they were playing with Kings of Leon, but they were pretty great performers and their songs were all awesome live. But it was the Kings of Leon I was really looking forward to. I have only liked them for about a year, but Aha Shake Heartbreak is a great album and I was looking forward to hearing some of it live. They played a lot of new songs I wasn't too crazy about though, and not very many I really loved. The concert was good, but it wasn't as awesome as I had been hoping it would be.


Last night we went to see Mae in Carrboro. It was their third show on their final tour called Goodbye, Goodnight. It was by far the greatest concert I have ever been to. I've been to four Mae shows since 2005 when I first heard the Everglow. In 2007 the keyboard player and the bassist left the band. This summer, Mae announced they would be rejoining the band and they would go on what would possibly be one final tour. My friend Anna and I immediately decided we must be a part of this tour and it was everything we imagined it to be. Mae played for TWO HOURS. Two hours of pure happiness. Mae wasn't playing this concert to headline their new songs, Mae was playing this concert for fun. They were happy to be back together and it showed. After the concert we talked to Dave, Zach, and James. We talked to James for the longest time. He told us about his new project (riverjamesmusic.com) and David got to tell him he is one of the greatest drummers he has ever seen!


On Friday we are going to see the Avett Brothers. I feel like I shouldn't get my hopes up, so as not to have a Kings of Leon repeat, but after that Mae concert I feel like anything is possible. I'm crossing my fingers that the Avett Brothers concert will be just as amazing as Mae's!
