United Kingdom

David and I have been given the opportunity to spend two weeks in the UK this summer! We are very excited about our trip and plan on spending a little over half the time driving through England/Scotland and the rest of the time exploring Ireland (with a night in Paris somewhere in there).

The reason I'm blogging about this is because neither of us have ever been to the UK before and we're looking for advice on where we should spend our time. We want to pick 5 or 6 cities in the England/Scotland area in which to spend the night, as well as places to see (at our leisure) in between those cities. We will also have a significant amount of time to spend in Ireland seeing things.

So! If you've been to England, Scotland, or Ireland please tell us your favorite things you saw! And if you haven't been but know of something super awesome that's there that we should see, let us know!

Here's a picture of the Champs-Élysées from the last time I was in Paris! (2004, almost 7 years ago to the day!)

  1. i enjoyed checking out the giant's causeway in northern ireland. :) it used to be one of the seven wonders of the world. btw, northern ireland is a separate country. i didn't know that until i got there and never saw a single irish flag but lots of union jacks and some other flag similar to england's.

  2. Go to Dublin! It's such a fun city...and you can walk everywhere (or pub crawl, as the case may be). Basically, anywhere you decide to meander in Ireland is worthwhile...Kilkenny is awesome, Sligo is a sweet quiet place with lots of hiking nearby and the Aran Islands are AMAZING - Galway is such a fun place too, it's a college town, so it's has a very youthful vibe. Oh and Stratford Upon Avon is a fun place in England since you two are nerdy book people, you'd like it. :)

  3. Be sure to go to the Isle of Mull. It's off the southern coast of Scotland. St. Columba went there when he was banished from sight of Ireland. It's an absolutely beautiful place.
